It occurred to me not too long ago that we could save ourselves a lot of anguish by not expecting others to think and act the same way that we do. What may seem obvious to us may not be obvious to someone else. When we say “Why can’t she just see that (fill in the blank)”, or “Why can’t he just be more (fill in the blank)”, we are answering our own question – they can’t, or they would.
There are lots of reasons that they can’t. They had different parents. They went to different schools. They were born under a different sun sign. They have had different life experiences. But the summary reason that they can’t see things the way we see them is that they are on a different Path. And we must realize that we are not the judge of that Path. Their Path is theirs, and their actions along that Path are between them and God/Spirit.
My mother used to say, “You do what you know…when you know better, you do better.” So instead of judging, let’s remember that you can’t do what you don’t know. Let’s try instead to educate, to teach by example, to be as patient as possible, and to let go of the outcome. Because the outcome is part of their Path…as well as ours.
